Lauri Love To Be Extradited To U.S., Facing Jail Time Before Trial

We Are Change

Lauri Love, 31, is facing 99 years in prison for allegedly hacking into the FBI, the U.S. Central Bank and Nasa. On Monday, United Kingdom Home Secretary Amber Rudd signed a order to extradite Love to the U.S. for criminal prosecution.

Love has Asperger’s syndrome, and his family has expressed concern that time in jail could cause a nervous breakdown that could lead him to commit suicide.

Love allegedly stole massive amounts of data from the U.S. Army, the Federal Reserve, the Department of Defense, NASA and the FBI in 2012 and 2013. The U.S. government also accused Love of placing backdoor shells on their severs allowing him continued access. Although no proof has been presented, they allege “millions of dollars” worth of damage was caused.

Love is charged with his involvement allegedly as the leader in a series of hacks related  to the Anonymous operation “Last Resort,” which was in support of Reddit and internet pioneer Aaron Swartz. The operation consisted of a group of Anonymous hackers that wreaked havoc and destruction on a number of U.S. government websites and servers. They also released a ransom file dubbed a “Nuke,” encrypted with a password that is said to have all that data that has never been released.

“Mr. Love has been charged with various computer hacking offenses which include targeting U.S. military and federal government agencies,” a Home Office spokesperson for Amber Rudd, said.

Love’s attorney Tor Ekeland  and Love’s family have previously asserted that Love suffers from depression and Aspergers as a defense against Love’s extradition.

Luke Rudkowski spoke to Tor Ekeland outside the Westminster Magistrates’ Court in London on Sept. 16, when the announcement was made that Love would be extradited. Tor Ekeland told We Are Change that that this is not over and there are still appeals they plan on filing to the High Court to prevent Love’s extradition to the U.S.

“While disappointed by Home Secretary Rudd’s decision, Lauri is appealing to the High Court, and if necessary the Supreme Court and the European Court of Human Rights. The fight is not over.”

~Tor Ekeland, said.

More than 100 MPs have signed a letter asking President Obama to block the extradition. One of those MP’s Labour MP Barry Sheerman, said he was “deeply disappointed”

“We are still keeping up the pressure. We are getting more and more MPs to sign the letter to President Obama,” Labour MP Barry Sheerman said.
