Finsbury Park Mosque Terror Attack: 47-year-old Darren Osborne Arrested

A man has been arrested on suspicion of terror offences after he drove a van into a group of worshippers close to a mosque in north London. One man, who had taken ill before the attack began, died and nine others were taken to hospital, some of whom were critically injured. A total of eleven people sustained injuries.

Police said the man who died was already being treated for an unrelated ailment and they are still investigating whether or not his death was related to the attack.

The Finsbury Park mosque attack suspect is understood to be Darren Osborne, a 47-year old living in Cardiff. The father-of-four was initially arrested for attempted murder at the scene and taken to a south London police station where he remains in custody.

Osborne appears to have acted alone. He struck while the area was busy with worshippers attending Ramadan night prayers in north London. The terror attack happened shortly before 00:20 BST on Monday, June 19, when the vehicle mounted the pavement outside the Muslim Welfare House which is also a community centre, on Seven Sisters Road. All of the casualties were Muslims.

The alleged attacker, who reportedly shouted, “I want to kill all Muslims”, is said to be originally from Weston-super-Mare. Police were on Monday searching an address in a cul-de-sac in the Llanedeyrn area, close to Cardiff golf club, in the north-east of the city suburbs.

Osborne was restrained by people at the scene and an imam stopped some of the crowd from attacking the suspect.

The suspect in the attack was not known to the security services, according to security minister Ben Wallace, although he has previously expressed hatred of Muslims.

Tom Batchelor reported in The Independent that Khadijeh Sherizi, who said she lives next door to Mr Osborne, commented: “I saw him on the news and I thought ‘oh my God’ that is my neighbour.

“He has been so normal. He was in his kitchen yesterday afternoon singing with his kids.”

“He was the dad of the family. He has kids. He lives next door. He seemed polite and pleasant to me.”

Adam Lloyd from The National Front in Wales said,

“Incidents like this are only going to increase as two different cultures clash thanks to the failed multicultural and multiracial experiment forced on us by successive corrupt governments.”

J.K. Rowling accused Katie Hopkins of radicalising British people against Muslims by quoting a tweet Hopkins made about the Manchester arena bombing.

The Prime Minister of Britain said the attack was, “the second this month and every bit as sickening as those which have come before…” and that “…hatred and evil of this kind will never succeed”.

The Major of London, Sadiq Khan, pointed out that just because the act was not perpetrated by a Muslim did not mean it was not a terrorist act.

Hopkins tweeted that she planned on going to the area where the attack happened to speak to victims.

Hopkins suggested that talking would help.

At this early stage no one can know for certain what caused Osborne to make this attack. A lot of people are saying it was done as an act of revenge for all the recent attacks that have happened in the UK.

Brendan McGeever, a Lecturer from the University of London, pointed out the hateful, UK right-wing press as a factor that may have contributed to Osborne’s radicalisation.

Partisangirl noted that hours after the US signed a defence pact with Kurdish proxies, they jointly attacked the Syrian military. People started talking about this on social media. Just hours after that event, the Finsbury Park mosque attack took place. People immediately stopped talking about Syria and started talking about the UK.

Lex Loopington commented that these events, happening one after the other, mean that the British public don’t have enough time to stop and work out who is benefiting from the recent deaths and mayhem.

Jessica Elgot for The Guardian, reports that, “No 10 gave a strong hint to reporters that new anti-terror measures to tackle online extremism – including far-right radicalisation – could be in the Queen’s speech on Wednesday.”

Fighting other human beings is ultimately pointless.

Always ask, cui bono, literally, “for whose benefit?” Any attempt to divide the people against each other should be scrutinised with extreme skepticism. Who benefits from British people hating and attacking each other?
